Shunji  is a very complex character. He never met his father since his mother was raped & raised him alone before killing herself. He doesn’t care about anybody except when it comes to his lover Opium. What attract him to her is the fact that she’s older than him, very vicious, she’s not perfect, lonely and never try to please others. He feels like they are the same. He hates people like Gisei who represents in his eyes, the hypocrisy we’re living in. Shunji see himself as a mistake (MACHIGAI), a lost soul who decided to embrace his dark side. In the end, it doesn’t make him feel better, just a little bit less sad and at least aware of his future path … Hell !

Shunji: What do you want ?

Gisei: I knew you would be here.

Shunji: I asked you a question Gisei.

Gisei: I want to know, how it feels to be a ”Machigai”- ミス

Shunji: You should know it !
